Gilia

Gilia is a genus of about 25-50 species of flowering plants in the family Polemoniaceae, native to temperate and tropical regions of America, from the western United States to southern Chile, where they grow mainly in desert habitat arid areas.

They are herbaceous annual (rarely perennial) which reach 10-120 cm in height. The leaves are spiral, usually pinnate (rarely simple), forming a basal rosette in most species.

The flowers are produced in panicles, with five lobes on the corolla, which can be blue, white, pink or yellow.

Gilia species are food plants of the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including aurantiaca and Schinia Schinia biundulata.
