The Confessions of Ascension

The Ascension is celebrated within the Christian faith that Jesus Christ after his resurrection he ascended to God, his Father in heaven. The celebration is part of the Easter cycle and takes place on Ascension Day.

Biblical history

This event is described in Mark 4:19 p.m., Luke 24:51 and Acts of the Apostles 1:1-12.

Forty days after his resurrection Jesus enter into heaven. The period of forty days mentioned in the Book of Acts: "After his suffering and death he has repeatedly proved them that he was alive for forty days he appeared in their midst and talked with them about the kingdom of God." (Handel. 1: 3) His disciples were present at the ascension. He promised that within a short time the Holy Spirit would come to help and support.

"When he had said this, he was brought before their eyes lifted up and a cloud, so she no longer saw. As he depart from them and they still go to heaven staring, suddenly two men dressed in white with them. They said: Galilee, why do you stand at the sky? Jesus, who from you into heaven is included, will come back the same way as you have seen him go into heaven. " (Handel.1 :9-11)

According to the Bible story, the promise of the Holy Spirit ten days later fulfilled at Pentecost.

Meaning

According to Christian belief, Jesus returned to heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father, in order to advocate and help to govern the faithful. In this interpretation of the Bible did Jesus' ascension the way for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit - which is commemorated on Pentecost - and Jesus will return at the return to Earth in order to perform the Last Judgement.

Confessions

Already from the writings of the Apostolic Fathers shows the belief in the ascension of Jesus (Polycarp of Smyrna, Justin Martyr and Irenaeus of Lyons). In the religious formulas of Nicaea (325) and Constantinople (381), the Ascension of Jesus mentioned.
